Magic Sand Demonstration

In this demonstration you have two types of sand. The cup on the left is regular sand. The cup on the right is magic sand. |

Pour water into the cup holding regular sand. What do you notice? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Observe how the sand sinks into the sand. Now try pouring water into the cup holding magic sand. Start with just a few drops. What do you notice? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Observe how the water remains on the surface of the magic sand. It is not absorbed by the sand! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Compare the two cups! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Now try this! Fill the cups up completely. Take a spoon and scoop out the sand. Is the magic sand wet?
