Workshop in Nanofabrication

When: August 1-5, 2005

Cost: Free.

Where: UCSB Engineering Sciences Building (ESB) 2001

What this includes: 8 hours of lecture and laboratory (mostly lab) each day for 5 days

Description
In this one week course, we presented an overview of cleanroom fabrication techniques used in the processing of semiconductor devices and circuits. Each day, students learned about a different processing technique and then completed a lab project involving that technology. All lab projects were completed in the UCSB teaching cleanroom located on the 4th floor of Engineering I.

Course Schedule

DAY 1
Topic: Introduction to cleanroom processing, photolithography
Lab: Cleanroom orientation, photolithography lab

DAY 2
Topic: Oxidation
Lab: Oxidation / oxide characterization

DAY 3
Topic: Etching
Lab: Wet etching, surface characterization

DAY 4
Topic: Diffusion
Lab: Doping by diffusion, electrical measurements of semiconductors

DAY 5
Topic: Thin film deposition
Lab: Metal deposition, lift-off, more electrical measurements of semiconductors
